The brief
An ageing Savant system had reached the end of its useful life. The house still needed whole-home control, but on a platform that would be dependable now and still properly supported in ten years' time.
What we created
A full migration to Crestron Home, built around an MC4-R control processor with a TSR-1070 touchscreen remote. Multi-zone audio comes from a DM-NAX-4ZSA amplifier and streamer with Sonos playback integrated alongside it, and the televisions throughout the property were replaced with 55 inch LG OLED G5 displays.
Replacing a platform, not patching one
There is a point where keeping an ageing control system alive costs more, in reliability and in frustration, than replacing it. This one was past it. Moving the house to Crestron Home was a decision about the next decade: better performance day to day, and a platform with a long, well-supported life ahead of it rather than behind it.
The processor and the handset
A Crestron MC4-R processor runs the house from the rack. Control is through a TSR-1070 touchscreen remote, which is a deliberate choice over an app-only system: it lives in the room, it is always charged and to hand, and it does not depend on somebody's phone being unlocked and on the right network before the lights will come on.
Audio that can be in four places at once
A DM-NAX-4ZSA is four zones of amplification and streaming in a single rack unit, so different parts of the house can play different things at the same time without a wall of separate amplifiers. Sonos playback is integrated into the same control, so the services the household already uses are reachable from the same handset as everything else.
The picture, upgraded in the same visit
The existing televisions were replaced with LG OLED55G5 displays throughout. Doing the screens as part of the control upgrade rather than as a separate job later means one set of visits, one set of cable runs and one system that was commissioned as a whole rather than assembled in stages.
